In the big city of Phnom Penh, there are scant opportunities to find work, but outside, in the smaller villages, and the northern parts of the country, It is even more difficult to find a meaningful, life-sustaining job. Bruce lives in the province of Battambang, in the north. He lost his job a few months ago and cannot find work. He struggles daily to put food on the table for himself and his young daughter. Bruce has been fishing a lot and has had some success providing some protein, but fishing is always hit and miss. Wanting to provide for his family, he has been reluctant to reach out for help, but this week he realized his daughter was suffering, so he contacted our staff member, Van, and told him he needed help. We provided a couple of months' worth of staple items to sustain him and his daughter, and Bruce can keep searching for a job in the meantime rather than spending time fishing.
